Spotlight on an Artist - Bridget Allen

Our third Creative Communicator was Bridget Allen. Her primary medium was textile art, creating prints of the Pūharakekenui with an old-fashioned printing press. She hosted a print-making workshop at Summer in the Styx, which was extremely popular! Bridget also worked closely with the Kahukura Rongoa Maori Trust weaving weed mats from Harakeke and Cabbage Tree leaves, to be used on site as natural weed control. The beautiful mural that is now on the barn at the Christine Heremaia Field Centre was painted by Bridget and truly encompasses the beauty of the native animal life found in the Pūharakekenui. 

Bridget will be hosting a series of flag making workshops for Matariki in partnership with the Trust and the Kahukura Rongoa Maori Trust, which will be on display for our annual Matariki celebrations event on Sunday July 16, 2023. Bridget will also have a public showcase coming up, so keep an eye out for updates!
